DKICP Joins APha in #PharmacistsFightingRacism Day

Today, June 26, is #PharmacistsFightingRacism day, declared by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). We at The Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy stand with #APhA and all #pharmacists to "advocate against racism, all forms of discrimination, and injustice, in order to improve patient care, particularly for those who are disproportionately suffering." In response, The Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy Faculty, Staff & Students will hold an open forum on Saturday, June 27, 2020 to discuss racism and discrimination.

Recent events, sparked by the killing of George Floyd by police officers in Minnesota, and what is seen as the final straw in several killings of black citizens by police officers in recent months, has shined a much-needed spotlight on the longstanding, pervasive, and unresolved racism plaguing the U.S.

In response to a call by concerned students, faculty, and staff, DKICP has provided this forum to begin the conversation of racism and more specifically DKICP’s role in creating an anti-racist community on our campus and in the larger community.

In addition, as we begin a curriculum transformation process, we would like to hear your suggestions and ideas on how can we incorporate some of these ideas into the new curriculum courses and topics to address systemic racism, implied bias, and the effect on health care disparities. This is the start of this conversation. It is not our goal to reach any sort of resolution.
