The Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP) American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) Chapter was awarded first place for the Innovative Programming Award for Region 8, which includes schools in Hawaii, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado.

The team was recognized for their work with the ALOHA Project (A Life Of Healing and Aloha), including health screening outreach efforts and a partnership with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) to provide Medicare consultations in our communities. Doctor of Pharmacy candidates Anuhea Sonnenberg and Tracy Pham presented a poster and podium presentation related to their outreach at the APhA annual meeting in Nashville, TN.

DKICP alumni and faculty Dr. Jarred Prudencio serves as the advisor for the DKICP chapter of APhA-ASP and mentored the award-winning team. “This well-deserved recognition for our students highlights their hardwork and dedication to providing healthcare services to our local community”, says Prudencio. He also started his term as the elected national Chair for the APhA Preceptor Community, and serves as the Hawaii state delegate in the APhA House of Delegates. Dr. Prudencio’s leadership roles with APhA promotes the quality of clinical training of students across the country and ensures that Hawaii has a voice as important decisions are made which shape the future of pharmacy practice in the United States.
